====== README ====== * How to access this site * How to transfer the sounds to the synth * FTP contents How to access this site ======================= If you want to access this site via ftp - recommended if you want to download lots of bytes, do it with: ftp ftp.neuroinformatik.ruhr-uni-bochum.de or alternatively: ftp 134.147.176.16 then go ***DIRECTLY*** to /pub/outgoing/heja/sy-list: cd /pub/outgoing/heja/sy-list If you don't, you may find that directories in between seem to be empty... Before downloading don't forget to switch to binary transmission mode (usually by typing "binary"). For some files (the "*.zip" ones) you will need the programs "zip" or "unzip" resp. "pkzip" to uncompress the file. There is also a WWW home page, try the following URL: http://www.neuroinformatik.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/ini/PEOPLE/heja/sy-list.html How to transfer the sounds to the synth ======================================= For clarification: the synths with a disk drive (SY77, SY85, SY99) can load the files in this archive directly. To use them that way unzip the archives and copy them to 720 kB DOS/TOS formatted 3.5" floppies. Disks formatted on the SY will usually be two times faster in loading/saving on the synth since they use the optimal interleave factor. If you have the option to use a 720kB disk drive instead of a 1.44 kB one for formatting - do so! (reliability is increased) If you have a PC with only HD (1.44MB) disk drive(s) and don't have any real DD (720KB) disks you can tape over the HD coding hole. Format these disks on the SY first, the SY will format them to 720KB capacity. After that you can copy files from/to both PC and SY as you like. Do not use directories on SY disks! Also look out and never use the same extension for 2 or more files on one disk. If two files have the same extension, change the numbers, e.g. if you have "FILE1.T01" and "FILE2.T01", change the second one to "FILE2.T02". If you save/rename files with your SY do not use lower case letters or any special chars (especially no spaces!), if you do so you will probably not be able to use the disks with a computer anymore. FTP contents ============ SY-FAQ.TXT ---------- Frequently asked questions & answers about Yamaha SYnthesizers. (partially outdated at the moment) SY22, SY35, SYTG55, SY77, SY85, SY99, TG33, TG500 ------------------------------------------------- Directories with sound files for these synths Most sounds are in the Yamaha disk file formats at the moment, TG77 owners can use "syconv.exe" in the PC directory or (better) sy2tg77.c in the MISC directory though. 22/33/35 owners should be able to use some of the files for the other machines. SAMPLES ------- Samples in single "wave" format, should be usable for the SY85 and SY99. DOC --- In this directory you will find various infos. AMIGA, ATARI, MAC, PC --------------------- Various programs for the Commodore Amiga, the Atari ST line of computers, Apple Macintosh and PCs and compatibles. MISC ---- Miscellaneous stuff (drumpatterns, tunings) Mail-archive ------------ This directory contains an archive of the sy-list mails sorted on a per month basis. tmp --- This directory is for temporal storage only, ignore it ;-). Please report any problems/suggestions to me by e-mail. If you want to upload something do so by putting it in /pub/incoming/heja and send me a short e-mail message. Herbert
